Verizon buys stake in AwesomenessTV

AwesomnessTV, the youth focused YouTube channel and marketing brand, has just made a deal with Verizon that will bring about its own premium mobile device video service. Majority owned by Dreamworks, AwesomnessTV has been a staple outlet of youth focused content for the past 4 years.

The channel already has a massive following on YouTube, claiming 7 billion views and 112 million subscribers across its numerous channels. Currently they create a wide variety of original content that range from television shows to theatrical films. On top of this original video content, The AwesomnessTV company has a focus in branding, publishing, and music as well. With that kind of popularity and market variety it is understandable why Verizon was willing to pay 159 million for a 24.5% stake in the company.

The deal AwesomnessTV made with Verizon promises a new subscription plan that will allow users access to 200 hours of original content. The deal will also create two new channels for the network:

The AwesomnessTV Channel, which will be aimed at teens and young millennials, and DreamworksTV, which will be more family oriented. The two new channels are set to be a part of an upcoming 30 channel video sub service, which will give subscribers a wide variety of content to choose from. The format for this new service will be focused on mobile in order to follow the video service trend of today. Included in the service will be channels like: MTV, Nickelodeon and Comedy Central, which will certainly draw a wide range of audiences.

An official date of release for the AwesomnessTV and DreamworksTV channels has yet to be announced, but we can expect to see it hit the market later this year.
