Yeezy Season 5 recap: new attitudes, color palettes and personality

The fifth season of Kanye West’s Yeezy line debuted Wednesday February 15th at New York Fashion Week. The collection stood out from the previous Yeezy seasons with new colors and styles. The 15 minute show premiered looks for men and women at a pace that allowed the intimate crowd to see each piece in detail.

In contrast to prior shows featuring shades of nude, season 5 featured deep maroon, teal and charcoal gray looks. The pieces in these hues included tracksuit pieces and sweaters, flannel shirts and jackets, many with accompanying thigh-high boots in coordinated shades.

Yeezy also featured denim looks in a well-worn washed-out pale shade in loose fitting boot-cut bottoms and oversized jackets. Some light black/dark gray denim pieces made an appearance as well. All of the denim looks made everything in your closet look too new and polished to ever be trendy again.

Other looks displayed camouflage combinations and long, extravagant fur coats. Many onlookers noted one fur coat sporting model, Halima Aden. Aden wore a hijab during the show and has turned heads as one of the first hijab-wearing models signed to IMG Models.

One of the most awaited pieces of the new season was the next Yeezy sneaker. The featured sneaker of this season is certainly something new. A bulky, quasi-futuristic dad-looking lace-up running shoe - the Yeezy 700. Yeezy fanatics will certainly be clamoring to get their hands on them as soon as possible, and dads everywhere will be astonished to find that their favorite casual shoes are now in style.
