An eventful night out at the Oscars 2016

If you watched the Oscars last night, you may have found yourself hysterically laughing and/or uncomfortably laughing at moments. With a trending hashtag of #oscarssowhite, you probably could have imagined that last night was going to be an interesting night. Having Chris Rock as a host was perfect. Black people love him and white people love him. 

The humor began from the moment Chris Rock opened with: 

"Is Hollywood racist? You're damn right Hollywood is racist. But it ain't that racist that you've grown accustomed to. Hollywood is sorority racist. It's like: 'We like you Rhonda, but you're not a Kappa,' " hahaha

It was refreshing seeing the Oscars have a host like Chris Rock when there were no black nominees. (Still pissed that the black dude from Star Wars didn't win anything. He was amazing!) Anyways, Chris Rock kept everyone on there toes throughout the whole show. As a matter of fact, I would have fallen asleep after the Weeknd's performance if it wasn't for Chris Rock's antics. 

Okay, Whoopi Goldberg's parody of Joy was hilarious and confronted the issue of black presence on film, but Stacey Dash's cameo was one of those very awkward moments. The audience didn't even know how to react. They didn't know whether to boo or clap, so they remained fairly silent. I assume because of her negative remarks towards her own African American people it would have been funny to have her supporting her people on the Oscars. It just wasn't funny though.

Angela Bassett appeared in a pre-taped segment that seemed to find her leading up to a tribute to Will Smith, who many said was snubbed for Concussion. To that end, she lauded an unnamed actor for his role in the film Enemy of the State, his voice work in Shark Tale, and his "fresh" role in a musical duo.

Except, as with the 2016 best actor nominees, Will Smith got shut out -- she was actually paying (joking) homage to Jack Black, who appeared in both films and is part of the comedy rock duo Tenacious D." This was mad funny!

I thought Kevin Hart had a great speech too. He acknowledged black actors who were not nominated at Oscars and said "Let's not let this issue of diversity beat us'. 

Leonardo DiCaprio also had one of the most prolific speeches of the night. He said, "We need to support leaders around the world who do not speak for the big polluters or the big corporations, but who speak for all of humanity," Stay Lit Leo!

The main issue I personally had with the night was seeing a mediocre movie like 'Mad Max' win so many awards. I mean I enjoyed the movie, but come on. That movie beat out 'Star Wars'. I don't think so. I think it's safe to say that the Oscars is a pretty political award show that doesn't always award the best or most talented in their crafts, but rather their most favorite. What's new? Anyways, maybe next year there will be more diversity like the Grammy's.
