Virgil Abloh presents his lit Spring / Summer 16' collection labeled "OFF DAY" for Paris Fashion Week.
Everything's coming up Virgil, the man behind Pyrex and Off White unveiled his women's collection titled simply "Off Day" in Paris yesterday for Fashion Week. However this collection is anything but that, it's what can best be describe as T-shirt and jeans on a classy drug binge combined with goth art freak. The signature diagonal stripes went super low key on this collection as we only see it surface on some accessories. We see some Grateful Dead tee's that have that Kanye Yeezus tour merch vibe which only makes sense as the two have worked closely together and are longtime friends.
The collection features whites, denim, public school bathroom floor tile pattern, and black on black outfits. It looks like the smell of new shiny cold hard plastic, of black nail polish or white spray paint, just everything an art studio would smell like this collection portrayed it. The show was actually three different viewings of the collection that offered front row seats for everyone and on the runway models outfits were spray painted on as they were walking making each piece a one of a kind, which falls in line with what he mentioned in an interview with Vogue the day prior to his show.
"For me, a pair of jeans that are custom-made with a person in mind, that have all these details—and as a designer I can go down the rabbit hole and create something special—that’s the spirit that I’m trying to unveil in Off-White.”
The art of denim making has indeed been lost and nothing is really unique or it's very own anymore so to see a designer stay true to himself without the effort that eventually just turns the art into another product is always refreshing. Virgil creates something so unlike his Off White Collection yet manages to stay completely true to himself as a designer and artist.
