Las Vegas Shooting Investigation Continues
More than a week after a deadly shooting in Las Vegas where an armed gunman killed 58 individuals and wounded over a hundred others. The gunman, identified as Stephen Paddock shot into the crowd at a Country Music Festival October 1. Clark County Sheriff Joe Lambardo is leading the complex investigation, which seems to be resulting in more questions than answers.
The shooter’s motive remains unclear as police are trying to figure out exactly what caused Paddock to attack a crowd of festival goers before committing suicide. Paddock’s girlfriend, Marilou Danley has been cooperating with police, but has not been able to suggest a potential motive.
Meanwhile, the timeline shooting its self remains unclear. Reports indicate that a hotel security guard, Jesus Campos, had been shot by the gunman either immediately before, or minutes before the rampage began. Other confusing reports indicate that there may have been police officers in the building. The official report, however, states that police presence arrived later.
The Chief of Las Vegas police praised officers for their quick response and bravery. Meanwhile, several individuals, including Johnathan Smith are being hailed as heroes for their quick thinking during the incident. Smith is credited with saving over thirty people who himself was shot twice and later dragged to safety by off duty officer Tom McGrath.
While conspiracy theorists are quick to fill in the gaps with various theories, the facts still remain under investigation.
