Apple Inc. Introduces iPhone 7 (Red)

The latest special edition iPhone iterations, the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus (Red), went on sale today March 24th.

The devices, which have the same hardware specs as the standard 7 and 7 Plus, are only being offered in 128GB and 256GB storage options (no 32GB option) and start at $750 for the 7, and $870 for the 7 Plus.  As with all items in the (Product)RED license brand, up to 50% of the profits will go to The Global Fund.  The Global Fund, in turn, invests nearly US$4 billion to support international programs aimed at ending HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria as epidemics.

The Product Red concept was co-founded in 2006 by U2 frontman Bono, and is the largest private sector contributor to The Global Fund.  Apple’s previous product offerings under the (Product)RED brand include the  iPod Nano, iPod touch, and iPod shuffle.  It is estimated that sales of Apple (RED) products have raised more than $65 million for (RED) since 2006.
