US Drops Bomb on Afghanistan – Raises Questions in North Korea

The United States have dropped one of the largest bombs in its arsenal, the GBU-43/B on ISIS tunnels in the Achin district of Afghanistan. When questioned, President Trump was vague on whether or not he personally authorized the strike which killed 37 suspected ISIS militants. The missile raised questions about North Korea.

The GBU-43/B has been referred to as “the mother of all bombs” with an impact that is both physical and psychological. Part of the goal in developing the weapon is to force a quick, fearful surrender from an adversary after witnessing the massive effects of the bomb.

Per Afghanistan’s US ambassador Hamdullah Mohib, the bomb was dropped after fighting had intensified between US and ISIS forces over the past week. Reports stated that ISIS operatives had mined tunnels in the area, which prompted the US airstrike.

When questioned about the events, President Trump and his administration gave a characteristically vague answer with Trump claiming that “everyone knows exactly what happened,” while praising the success of the US military. Afghanistan ministry’s spokesman, Dawlat Waziri confirmed that 37 ISIS militants were killed during the bombing.

The use of the missile also raised questions about a potential threat from North Korea to which Trump expressed his faith the US relationship with China. Trump also alluded to the missile use being a warning, though no clear statement had been made. Meanwhile, the North Korean government has announced that it will go to war with the US if provoked.
