OJ Simpson Parole Draws Attention
In a highly public hearing, former actor NFL star OJ Simpson, who had been convicted for robbery after being acquitted for a double homicide, has been unanimously granted parole. According to reports, Simpson has shown remorse for his actions and has been a model prisoner. The hearing garnered some fourteen million views.
The OJ Simpson trial was once the center of attention- particularly because the NFL star had been accused of murdering his wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and restaurant waiter Ron Goldman in 1995. Simpson was later tried and then convicted in 2008 for kidnapping, armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon after he attempted to steal pieces of Simpson’s sports memorabilia- what Simpson described as his personal belongings.
Simpson was sentenced to nine to thirty-three years, a sentence that most cited as unfair for the crime even going so far as to insinuate that the jury was out for payback for the 1995 case. On Thursday, Simpson thanked the jury and dropped his head for a moment of silence. The decision has garnered mixed reactions amongst viewers ranging from anger to sympathy.
Simpson is set to be released from the Lovelock Correctional Facility in October.
