The Extraordinarily, Prestigious, Edward Enninful Will Take British Vogue By Storm

It has been announced that Edwin Enninful, fashion and creative director of the magazine W, will be taking over as editor in chief of British Vogue. Enninful will replace Alexandra Shulman on August 1. 

Enninful will be both the first man and first black editor to join Vogue, which has been around for over 100 years. Enninful emigrated from Ghana to Britain as a child and was most recently working in New York. 

Enninful is recognized for his influential work for magazine covers. Jonathan Newhouse, chairman and chief executive of Vogue’s parent company Condé Nast, stated that Enninful is “an influential figure in the communities of fashion, Hollywood and music which shape the cultural zeitgeist” and stated that he was, “by virtue of his talent and experience, Edward is supremely prepared to assume the responsibility of British Vogue.”

Enninful also recently received an Order of the British Empire for his commitment to diversity in the fashion industry. Having begun his career as a model at age 16, Enninful has worked his way up the chain of command. Following his time as a model, Enninful moved to photography and then by 18 he became an editor, one of the youngest ever. 

Enninful later pioneered the grunge movement in the 90’s, and Italian Vogue’s “Black Issue” to push to end the ‘white-out’ dominating the industry. Enninful continued to push for diversity throughout his career, often making waves by doing so. But, that has not stopped him from being well-liked and well-connected in the fashion community. 

As for British Vogue, we will have to wait to see what Enninful comes up with next!
