New ‘Captains Mode’ MOBA Contest Launched by League of Ancients

League of Ancients (Fromvision PTE LTD), the NFT MOBA game developed on distributed ledger technology, is hosting an ‘Epic LOA Battle’ with a series of rewards for participants. There will be an initial staking period of seven days starting from January 4th. This staking period will end on January 11th and the tokens will be locked for 30 days from the initial staking point. The cost of entry is 100 $LOA tokens, equivalent to one ticket.

Participants will face off in 5v5 combat on a specific map against the LOA founders in Bo3 DoTA2 (Captains Mode). The contest offers a chance to beat the inventors of what could be one of the first blockchain-based NFT MOBA games. The MOBA genre is well established as one of the most addictive and popular styles, with many avid gamers putting in long hours in an environment requiring strategy and adaptivity. The free-to-play and play-to-earn model also adds a huge incentive to gamers looking to get rewarded for the time spent on a given platform.

The actual Bo3 DoTA2 contests will be held on the 11th, 12th, and 13th January 2022. The rewards for defeating the LOA founding team are impressive, but it likely won’t be an easy feat. There is a definite prestige appeal of beating the developers and founders of the game, and they are (presumably) quite proficient at the tactics and strategy.

Each player on the team is evenly rewarded for a victory. The rewards consist of NFT ‘capsules’ as well as $LOA tokens, divided into three distinct tiers. The reward tiers themselves depend on where a team places on the leaderboard:

Tier 1 Reward/1 - 4 on Leaderboard: 1 Immortal Skin & 25,000 $LOA tokens for each player.

Tier 2 Reward/5 - 8 on Leaderboard: 1 Genesis Capsule & 10,000 $LOA tokens for each player.

Tier 3 Reward/9 - 12 on Leaderboard: 1 Alpha Capsule, 1 Beta Capsule & 5,000 $LOA tokens for each player.

The Tier 3 battle takes place on the 11th, the Tier 2 battle takes place on the 12th, and the Tier 1 battle takes place on the 13th. There will also be 50 $LOA tokens awarded randomly to 1,000 participants via airdrop.

But the real prizes are the capsules, especially the Immortal and Genesis skins. These are of incredible rarity. Immortal skins are only available through a process known as ‘fusion’ while the Genesis skin is only available pre-launch. In total, the rewards for the participants include 5 Immortal Capsules, 5 Genesis Capsules, 5 Alpha Capsules, 5 Beta Capsules, and 250,000 $LOA tokens. Three slots (for a Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 battle) are available via an airdrop lottery to bring more equality into the staking system.

There are strict participation details and teams have to be careful to fill in their information correctly through the Google form. This includes Steam ID, Telegram ID, Discord Tag, and wallet addresses. Users will need a Metamask wallet with $LOA tokens to participate. Incorrect details will mean disqualification and that the next team on the leaderboard will be bumped up. This is reflective of the somewhat cold blockchain ethos. There is little sympathy lost for those who can’t secure their own accounts and information.

‘Captains Mode’ is the standard tournament game mode for DoTA2. In this mode, certain heroes are banned while others are chosen. Banned heroes cannot be chosen by either team. There are 30 seconds for a ban and 30 seconds for a pick. Each captain has 130 seconds in total as well as bonus time. There is a considerable amount of teamwork and strategy involved in Captains Mode and in MOBA games in general. Most likely, players will need considerable prior experience, both individually and as a team, if they want to take down the LOA founding team.

The NFT rewards are only available when the marketplace goes live in Q1 2022. Once the marketplace goes live, winners have seven days to claim their prizes. $LOA token prizes can be claimed within 3 days from the dashboard.
